The Slovakia €5 collector euro coin “Fauna and Flora in Slovakia – European Pond Turtle” features one of the themes in the series dedicated to the country’s natural wealth. The European pond turtle is one of the rarest reptiles in Slovakia and its occurrence is linked to wetlands and quiet aquatic habitats. The issue draws attention to the importance of protecting natural habitats and preserving biodiversity.

For the first time in the history of a Slovak €5 coin, the coin is originally colourised as part of the issue itself, highlighting the turtle motif and introducing a new element to the National Bank of Slovakia’s collector coin series.
