The Slovakia €20 Silver Collector Coin 2026 “250th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Maurice Benyovszky as King of Madagascar” is dedicated to one of the most remarkable figures of Slovak history. Maurice Benyovszky was a traveller, explorer, soldier and adventurer of Slovak origin whose journeys eventually took him to Madagascar. According to his memoirs, in October 1776 an assembly of local tribal kings elected him as their leader, the great king known as “Ampansacabé”.
The coin design reflects Benyovszky’s adventurous life and his activities in Madagascar. The reverse features his portrait accompanied by a map of Madagascar, a zebu symbol, a compass and the traveller’s palm, while the obverse depicts a period sailing ship on rough seas.
