The World Meeting of Families, organised by the Vatican, is an international event that celebrates and supports the family as the basic unit of society. Initiated by Pope John Paul II in 1994, the event is held every three years and includes a rich programme of spiritual, educational and cultural activities. The meeting gives families from around the world an opportunity to share experiences, strengthen their faith and discuss the challenges and joys of family life. Its aim is to promote family values and unity within the Catholic community. In 2015, the World Meeting of Families was held in Philadelphia.
