The arrival of Cyril and Methodius in the territory of present-day Slovakia in the 9th century was an important event marking the beginning of Slavic Christianity and cultural development. The brothers Cyril and Methodius came on a mission at the request of Prince Rastislav to Christianise the Slavs and create a script for the Slavic languages. Their arrival brought not only religious transformation but also a cultural revolution, as they created the Glagolitic and Cyrillic scripts, the first writing systems for Slavic languages. Celebrations of their arrival provide an opportunity to honour their legacy and influence on Slavic culture and spiritual life.
