Magdeburg Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Saints Maurice and Catherine, is the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany and one of the country's most important sacred buildings. Construction began in the 13th century, and the cathedral reflects the rich history and cultural heritage of Saxony-Anhalt. It is renowned for its imposing architecture, magnificent works of art and as the final resting place of Emperor Otto I the Great. In 2021, Germany issued a €2 commemorative coin dedicated to Magdeburg Cathedral, available in a proof set containing five coins bearing the mint marks A, D, F, G and J.
