The Treaty of Rome, signed in 1957, laid foundations for the European Union and the unification of European nations. The treaty created the European Economic Community (EEC), a key step in the process of European integration. To mark the 50th anniversary of this historic event, Germany issued a €2 commemorative coin in 2007. The coin formed part of a five-coin proof-quality series bearing the mint marks A, D, F, G and J and was issued in a very low mintage.
