Thrace, a historic region extending across present-day Greece, Bulgaria and Turkey, became part of Greece in 1920 following the unification that came after the First World War. This important milestone in Greek history marked the return of a territory with a rich past to Greek control. In 2020, Greece issued a €2 coin in proof quality to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this unifying event, symbolising national pride and historical heritage.
