The archaeological site of Philippi, included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is one of the most important historic sites in northern Greece. Founded as early as the 4th century BC, it played a key role in Roman history and in the spread of Christianity in Europe. The 2017 coin pays tribute to this exceptional site and its cultural legacy.
