In 2025, the Vatican issued a commemorative €2 coin for the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti. The coin’s design depicts the dome of St Peter’s Basilica, designed by this important Renaissance artist, and is complemented by his period signature.
The coin is minted in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality and inserted into an official collector card. This issue pays tribute to Michelangelo not only as a painter and sculptor, but also as an architect whose work remains a symbol of the union of art and spirituality.
